Here are the finished products from our visit to The Potting Shed.
The new group started in June 2016. There are currently 4 regular attendees. In September we've decided to meet every fortnight, as schoolwork and extra training for sports and hobbies needs to be fitted in alongside studying for GCSEs.
Over the summer, some of us enjoyed a sailing session on the Marine Lake, and others went to The Potting Shed to paint pottery. Its been a long time since we posted, but life and exams started taking over.
Anyway, last December Frankie was chosen to take part in a 'People's Debate in the House of Lords!! It was about representation of all groups in parliament. Not surprisingly the Guiding members who took part were concerned with the number of women MPs. Over the last year, 3 members have earned Young Leader Qualifications. Congratulations to Frankie, Annie, and Hannah. Jas took part in the West Wirral Gang Show. At Christmas the Rangers had a film night, but now everyone is buried in Exam revision. Some of our members will be off to University in the autumn, but we hope they will come back and visit us occasionally. Summer 2014 For the past few months in senior section we have done a variety of activities, which have all been thoroughly enjoyable. During the height of exams we filled a box full of things that make us happy from concert tickets to old photos. This helped us to relax and unwind as many members were facing our GCSE’s and it reminded us of how we should always look for the happier things in life. At our next meeting we embraced the true spirit of guiding by cooking on a campfire which allowed us to make delicious bacon dreams and cakes which were cooked in oranges as well as tasty popcorn. On the whole this was very successful and definitely something we will be doing again in the near future. Spring 2014 This term we started off with a games evening, where we spent time playing Super Mario and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Wii. This was a fun-filled evening, even if we did get slightly competitive As part of The Big Brownie Birthday Challenge we spent an evening looking at Jamaica and cooked a delicious dish of Jerk Chicken. We also attempted to make some Jamaican bracelets, but these quickly turned into anklets when we realised how hard the bracelets were.
![]() Summer 2013 We are very pleased to have been joined by a new member this term. Our schedule has been a little disrupted by D of E and exams, but we have still been able to make good use of the time we have had. We have done a number of Inter-national Activities, includ-ing the Maori Stick Game which is a traditional game that young school children would play while singing songs like E Papa Waiari. We also tried our hand at weaving. During half-term Charlotte painted the trig point at the top of Grange Hill. In July we took full ad-vantage of the lovely weather and made our way down to West Kirby beach. We played several ball games such as French cricket, rounders and volleyball. We ended our evening by making smores (chocolate digectives with marshmallows melted between them) on a beach campfire. Spring 2013 In our February meeting we tried our hand at some circus activities, including juggling and balancing plates on sticks. Some of us were more talented at these activities than others! We finished the meeting with a game of giant snakes and ladders, which was great fun. In March we planned on going star gazing but a cloudy night foiled our plans. How-ever, not to be put off by the weather, we went star gazing using an iPad and the Star Walk app. We then made constellation pictures using paper and star stickers. Next term we hope to welcome some new members into Senior Section by inviting them to a taster session and meal. We hope to see lots of the older Guides there. Autumn Term 2012 This term the Senior Section have carried out several seasonal ac-tivities. To celebrate Halloween we decorated pumpkins with sweets, a safer and tastier version of the more traditional pumpkin carving! Our 2nd meeting at the end of November, was our Xmas activity. We created handmade cards for the elderly with the aim of cheering up their Christmas. We hope to see some new members next term for more fun and food! Summer 2012 Currently in Newton Senior Section there are just two of us. However, we still have fun and get lots done. We meet once a month on a day that suits us best. For the past 3 months we have been working on the "On Your Marks" folder, entirely dedi-cated to the Olympics and the sport and culture behind the Olympics. It has included doing things like creating our own mascots, making energy bars and researching Olympians. Overall we have a really fun time and get to do some-thing new and different every time (as well as being able to eat biscuits :)) We also entered a cooking competition and had a great time and were able to de-velop skills such as teamwork. For any-one interested in joining, our next meet-ing will be in early September. |
