Spring and Summer
2 terms to catch up on!
Inside in the winter we tried lots of challenges, from tasting herbal teas ( yuk!) to pitching a tent indoors.
We joined the Guides to try versions of the Winter Olympic Sports, (the ice hockey became very competitive)
Another evening included creating cocktails to suit our personalities. When the guides were holding a Water Aid evening, we tried cleaning water with a variety of filters. (didn't fancy drinking any of the results)
First aid practice helped IG complete her level 5 badge. We went outside one evening and relaxed round a fire, with marshmallows of course.
CG went to the County International Afternoon, but was unsuccessful in earning a place on an International trip.
Term finished with organising the food for the Guides Magic Themed Party.
Summer term allowed us all to move outside again. meetings were based at the HQ with excursions into the park or the village. We welcomed 2 new members who are going to split their time between being YLS at Guides with learning Rangers level skills. Some of us attended the Day Camp to practise some of the outdoor skills we've been missing during lockdowns including wood-fire cooking and whittling.
Exams reared their heads and the older girls took a break whilst they put in extra study hours. They did continue helping at the units where they are Young Leaders.
A treasure hunt using Lat and Long coordinates helped us practise the map skills as well as our observation.
More camp skills practice enabled LH to earn her Level 5 Camp badge by the end of term.
First aid included dealing with broken bones in the wild and improvising splints.
The District Party for the Jubilee gave us a chance to help out with the younger girls in the District, as well as trying to reconstruct the Jubilee Trifle (messy fun).
We ran our own Hoopla Stall at the Charity Fair to fundraise for young Mums.
The end of term meeting on the beach was help in record breaking temperatures. Fortunately it had cooled enough by the time we met. While the guides were creating sand art, we set off to take a set of photos of the lake and beach.
